Getting in touch with nature – Ranger for a day

It is early in the morning, the spray splashes out of the water and the boat rushes across the turquoise sea towards a hilly island: Curieuse Island – also known as the “Turtle Island”. After a ten-minute crossing from Praslin, the boat docks and the island adventure begins: Equipped with a uniform, a ranger badge and an island manual, the amateur rangers go on tour, because there is a lot to do in paradise! During the tour of the island, bird nests are checked, young lemon sharks are marked and the countless giant tortoises are observed and marked.

The professional ranger also reveals a lot of interesting facts about the prehistoric reptiles, such as how old can be determined from the number of rings on the shell. The day is far from over: Back from the snorkeling tour to a coral rearing facility, there is lunch together with local specialties.

After the refreshment, the planting of new sprouts in the island tree nursery and a hike to the beach of Anse Jose, where tropical tree species such as the indigenous Seychelles palm Coco de Mer or the gigantic Takamaka trees, can be admired, are on the program . A visit to the so-called Lizard Rock, also known as the Turtle Rock granite rock formation, concludes the expedition.
